Company Spotlight: Decagon
Decagon didn’t stroll into the AI race, it accelerated straight into the apex. Founded in August 2023 by Jesse Zhang and Ashwin Sreenivas, this San Francisco startup turned the chaos of enterprise customer support into a masterclass in precision. Less than two years later, Decagon isn’t just another AI company chasing hype, it’s a unicorn built on outcomes, not optics, with a $1.5 billion valuation and a product rewriting how enterprises talk to their customers.
The idea sparked at an Andreessen Horowitz retreat when Zhang and Sreenivas recognized a universal pain point: customer support was broken. Chatbots frustrated users. Human agents burned out. Brands bled loyalty. Their solution wasn’t a better script, it was a new operating system for conversation. Decagon’s AI agents handle chat, email, and voice like seasoned concierges, moving from refund to resolution without breaking the rhythm. The secret? Agent Operating Procedures (AOPs), an architecture that fuses natural language with code logic so operators can guide the AI in real time while engineering keeps full control.
And the results don’t whisper, they roar. Hertz clocks 75% resolution rates. ClassPass deflects 80% of inbound tickets. Chime cuts support costs by more than half while doubling NPS. Rippling sees 32% higher deflection across 400,000 users. In an industry where efficiency often kills empathy, Decagon’s AI agents are doing both, faster, smarter, kinder.
Investors noticed the velocity. Accel and Andreessen Horowitz Growth Fund co-led the $131 million Series C in June 2025, joined by Bain Capital Ventures, BOND, and Forerunner. That round brought Decagon’s total raise to $231 million and locked in its position at the front of the AI CX pack, shoulder to shoulder with giants like Sierra.ai and Salesforce Service Cloud, but with half the deployment time and none of the legacy drag.
Behind the metrics are two founders who’ve done this before. Zhang exited his gaming startup Lowkey to Niantic and cut his teeth at Citadel, Google, and Hudson River Trading. Sreenivas built Helia before Scale AI acquired it and shaped strategy at Palantir. Together, they’ve architected not just a product but a movement, a belief that customer experience is the new frontier of brand equity, and AI is the agent leading the charge.
From San Francisco to New York and soon London, Decagon’s team is scaling fast. They’re hiring across engineering, product, and operations for people who want to build at the edge of intelligence. Because in a market flooded with bots pretending to listen, Decagon built one that actually understands.
